Only a few lyrics are distinguishable to our ears; Gangnam Style, hey sexy ladies, baby, you know what I'm saying. The rest we can make up as we go, but one tip is "Op op op op oppan Gangnam Style" where 'op' is pronounced 'wop' whilst doing the trademark horse riding and lassoing the air. Every music video needs 'hot chicks' dancing around, and here they even join in on the humorous dance. 'Gangnam Style' translates as how people in the Gangnam district in Korea dress, or how some of them carry and call themselves 'Gangnam Style', but apparently it's only the 'posers or wannabes', and Psy himself has said that this song is to poke fun at these people.

This kind of phenomenon is similar to the Macarena. Remember that? No words are legible except the song title, and have created a worldwide known dance, that is used frequently at weddings, proms and a reason to get anyone on the dance floor for a boogie. Who knows, but maybe Gangnam Style will have this capacity to entertain us for life, and we'll be doing the Gangnam Style in decades to come.

As you say, this kind of weird stuff like Gangnam happens on and off all the time. Way back a satirical show in the UK (Spitting Image) made a number one hit with 'Wave your knickers in the air' which started life as a spoof of the terrible dance songs that had swept British tour spots like the Ibiza or wherever the 18-30 club took people for cheap package holidays. Maybe you remember Crash Test Dummies,’Mmmm’? You may not have heard of 'Da Da Da' by the German group Trio, written for a bet, that anything could get into the charts and it did worldwide. All the Gangnam moves are simple enough for anyone to follow and easy is always good for a laugh.
